Again the widely-watch Junior SongFestival decided the Netherlands’ entry for Junior Eurovision. This year’s winner dominated the points by toping the children’s jury, adult jury and the popular vote! The unanimous winner was 14-year old Meadow Isselt with the song “Freeze.” Meadow is already a seasoned pro as she has performed live on stage with musicals like The Bodyguard and Frozen. She’s also the voice of Ariel in the Dutch dub of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Her winning song is a song reminding us that patience and slowing down are still virtues. Not everything is now-or-never. The song has a catchy danceable beat to it and has what it takes to stand out. Although she doesn’t show off in her vocals, they do fit the song well. I find it very likeable myself.
JESC Chances: Even though The Netherlands has been in every JESC, I think the reason why they’ve only had one win and one other Top 3 finish is often because of so much Easter European influence in the outcome. Despite that, The Netherlands still keep trying and they show signs they can do it again. Although not many other Junior Eurovision songs have been decided as of now, I can see this going well. Not only can Meadow sing well but she can dance as well as her backing dancers. As is the case with ESC and JESC entries, staging will either boost or hinder its final results. Just listening to it, I can already sense this song will place well. As for another Top 3 finish or a possible win, that will depend on Meadow’s performance, the staging on Contest night and what the other nations have up their sleeve.
And there you go. That’s my second review of this year’s Junior Eurovision songs. The month of November should see more releases coming out. Especially during the first two weeks.
