After winning Benidorm Fest 2023, Blanca Paloma is getting ready to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. For this reason, during the press conference she was very confident and spoke about what her participation in Liverpool will be:

“I think that outside of Spain flamenco is loved a lot; it belongs to everyone, it is universal and we do it from a very personal place of ours. We look back, we drink from the flamenco fountain, which is infinite, but we have made it our own. When something is done with truth and authenticity, it comes along and pinches. I hope that Europe has its chest prepared and rises up for ‘Eaea’”

Blanca Paloma’s “Eaea” Song Story

Blanca Paloma’s song is a lullaby and the lyrics are directed to a child. This is a love song that goes beyond death, because it all began when her grandmother Carmen (who is also the lady who on the cover of Blanca’s single).

Blanca’s grandmother Carmen sang to her, when she was a child, a song that laughed about death, something that hailed from her Sevillan roots. And when her grandmother passed away, Blanca kept her within her heart, so this song is also to connect her with her grandmother. It is, primarily, a message from her grandmother’s culture and roots to herself.

What Blanca’s staging and costume means

Blanca performing “Eaea” at Benidorm Fest

It is a story of empowerment, and Blanca’s costume represents Archer, and her gestures also do, so what she is wearing is a way to protect her emotions and her inner self, but also to represent someone who goes forward and who tries to fight what life brings.

It is a ritual – women call to their ancestors: Blanca calls to her grandmother, the others call to everyone in general.

Blanca Paloma says, that she is very satisfied with how the staging is now, it depends on the stage whether will she change something or not, however the thing she would like to do is not allowed, as she would like to have more women on stage, because the women groups it is very important part of the performance. They represent this kind of ritual, in which they call to their female ancestors, because it’s a way to create the aura. Women call to the ancestors: Blanca calls to her grandmother, the others call to everyone in general.
