Benidorm Fest 2025: Details Announced by RTVE

RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster, has officially announced the dates and details for Benidorm Fest 2025. The event will take place in the picturesque coastal city of Benidorm and will serve as Spain’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest for the fourth consecutive year.

Event Dates and Format

Benidorm Fest 2025 will consist of three televised shows: two semi-finals and a Grand Final.

The semi-finals will be held on January 28 and 30, with the Grand Final scheduled for February 1.

A total of 16 acts are expected to participate, vying for the chance to represent Spain at Eurovision 2025 in Switzerland.

Voting and Results

In a significant change from previous editions, the full results of the semi-finals will not be disclosed immediately. Instead, only the names of the qualifiers will be announced during the semi-final shows, with the detailed results revealed after the final. Public voting will be free and conducted through a newly introduced official Benidorm Fest app.

Selection Committee and Process

The selection committee for Benidorm Fest 2025 will comprise Beatriz Luengo, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson, Pablo Cebrián, and Rayden. They will be responsible for reviewing all submitted entries and shortlisting them for the competition.

The submission window, which opened on May 20, will remain open until October 10, 2024. The entries can be submitted with or without a performer, and RTVE may also invite established composers, singers, and lyricists directly.

Regulations and Songwriting Camps

In line with previous years, songs must feature live singing without any vocal effects. Solo artists must have Spanish nationality or permanent residence in Spain, while groups must have at least 50% of their members meeting this criterion. The lyrics of the songs must be primarily in Spanish or any other official language of Spain, though up to 40% of the lyrics can be in a foreign language.

RTVE will organize songwriting camps to help generate entries for the competition. These camps, typically held behind closed doors, may become open to the public in the future. Additionally, RTVE has formed a professional committee consisting of musicians and RTVE representatives to shortlist up to 16 acts and 6 backup songs for the event.

Press Conference Highlights

The press conference, held at Mirador de la Música in Benidorm, was hosted by Maria Eizaguirre Comendador (RTVE’s Head of Communication and Participation) and attended by key figures such as Ana Maria Bordas (Spanish Head of Delegation), Nebulossa (Spain’s Eurovision 2024 representative), and César Vallejo (RTVE/Co-Director of Benidorm Fest). During the event, an agreement was signed between RTVE and the Mayor of Benidorm, solidifying the city’s role in hosting the festival.
