BBC has just announced that Olly Alexander will represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2024. His song will be released at a later stage.
Olly sprung the surprise news during the Grand Final of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing to a delighted studio audience and millions of viewers watching across the United Kingdom.
‘I’ve loved watching Eurovision ever since I was a little kid and I’m beyond excited to be taking part next year. As a young boy I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion and humour. I really can’t believe I’m going to be a part of such a special legacy and fly the flag for the UK in the gayest way possible, it shall be an honour!
I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name. I’m determined to give it everything I’ve got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all!’

About Olly Alexander
Oliver Alexander Thornton, professionally known as Olly Alexander, is an English singer and actor, gaining recognition primarily through his involvement in the musical project Years & Years.
From an early age, Alexander was immersed in the world of music, thanks to his mother’s role as one of the founders of the Coleford Music Festival. During his school years, he discovered a passion for acting in plays and pursued studies in Performing Arts, despite eventually dropping out to pursue an acting career. His debut in the film “Summerhill” occurred in 2008.
In 2010, Years & Years was established, with Olly assuming the role of lead vocalist. Their inaugural single surfaced two years later, and it wasn’t until 2013 that they achieved success with the release of the song “Traps.” Throughout this period, the group underwent a transformation from a five-member ensemble to a trio.
The trajectory of success for Years & Years reached a pinnacle in 2015 with the release of their single “King,” which ascended to the top of the UK charts, marking a transformative moment for Olly Alexander and his collaborators.
Despite subsequent accomplishments, including the release of two studio albums, Olly now stands as the sole member of the Years & Years project. Additionally, he pursues a solo career under his own name, Olly Alexander, showcasing his enduring presence in the music industry.
