PRESS RELEASE:
While Azerbaijan has had some great successes in Eurovision history, recent results have been disappointing. Our failure to reach the final in the last four years and our consecutive last-place finish in the last two years have both disappointed fans and damaged our country’s musical reputation in Europe.
We believe that the main problems are the lack of transparency and public participation in the selection process of our Eurovision representative . The current activities of Public TV and the Azerbaijani delegation lead to shortcomings in communication with fan communities, media and independent Eurovision platforms, negative reactions to constructive criticism, poor communication and the failure of the selected participants to fully demonstrate their potential.
Problems:
- The selection of candidates is carried out in a non-transparent and closed manner.
- Fan pages, blogs, and media representatives are blocked on social networks and their activities are hindered.
- The selection strategy pursued for many years with the “Focus Group” has been yielding unsuccessful results in recent years.
- The delegation’s PR and presentation strategy does not meet modern requirements.
Our requirements:
- A national final system should be implemented (not necessarily in the traditional way, there are alternatives) and the public should be actively involved in the selection of our representative.
- The selection process should be transparent and democratic, so that our talented artists can take advantage of these opportunities.
- The delegation should establish open and impartial communication with fan communities, and criticism and feedback should be accepted.
- The current team’s performance should be investigated and leadership should be changed if necessary.
