The Azerbaijani broadcaster İctimai has announced the artist that will represent Azerbaijan at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel – it’s the trio Mamagama.

Azerbaijan has chosen its act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, and it’s a name that promises to make an impression—Mamagama. The three-piece band will represent the country on one of music’s biggest stages, bringing their signature fusion of rock, pop, and traditional Azerbaijani elements to audiences across Europe.

The selection was made by Azerbaijani broadcaster İctimai, which sifted through 154 submissions before narrowing them down to a shortlist of 12. These finalists were then assessed by both Azerbaijani and international juries, with Mamagama emerging as the top choice. Their song for Eurovision will be unveiled later in February.

Who Are Mamagama?

Formed in 2021, Mamagama has quickly built a reputation as one of Azerbaijan’s most original and energetic musical acts. The trio—Asaf on vocals, Huss on guitar, and Arif on drums—has already made waves on the international music scene, including an acclaimed performance at Albania’s Kënga Magjike Music Festival in 2022 with their song Dreamer.

The band’s name itself carries a deeper meaning. Mama, they explain, represents the ultimate creator and source of life, nurturing the world when necessary. Gama, on the other hand, symbolizes the full spectrum of sound, from the highest frequencies to musical scales stretching across time and space. Combined, Mamagama embodies a sound that is both deeply familiar and electrifyingly limitless.

Lead singer Asaf has already expressed his excitement about the opportunity to showcase Azerbaijani music and culture at Eurovision:

It’s an honour for me to be representing Azerbaijan on such a big stage with our culture. I deeply love the land where I was born, and this is a chance to share its beauty and spirit with all of Europe. Our song, which will be revealed very soon, is a true representation of our country’s essence. We are incredibly excited and believe that our entry will leave a lasting impact.

With their energetic performances and genre-blending sound, Mamagama aims to bring something fresh and powerful to Eurovision 2025. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear what they have in store, as their competition entry is set for release in February.
