It’s interesting to see that North Macedonia doesn’t plan on returning to the main Eurovision for quite some time claiming budget constraints, but they don’t have a problem submitting entries for Junior Eurovision. I often sense MRT feels JESC treats them better. Even I find that odd as they’ve finished twelfth in nine of their eighteen previous participations, including last year. This year, North Macedonia did their internal selection for their Junior Eurovision entry and decided on two performers from the town of Bitola: 14 year-old Ana Vanchevska and 13 year-old Aleksej Ivanovski. Their song is titled “Marathon.”
Very often at Junior Eurovision, there are songs about believing in yourself and chasing your dream. This is a song that encourages one to chase their dreams and to remember that chasing your dreams is not now-or-never. It’s about going the distance like a marathon. It’s hard to decide what genre this song is but it is a good up-tempo song. Both singers’ voices blend together well in the song and as you can see in the video, both singers put a lot of effort into their performance. The message is inspiring, and the song has a lot of energy. I can see this song appealing to a lot of people. Even myself, I find myself liking it more as I listen to it again and again.
JESC Chances: North Macedonia has often been one of the hard luck nations at both Eurovision and Junior Eurovision. As for JESC, the problem lately has been their entries have a lot of buzz but they either don’t live up to the hype or bad staging sinks their buzz. I’m sure you know of a previous North Macedonian entry that you feel finished lower than it should. This year, Ana and Aleksej don’t have as much hype as previous North Macedonia entries. They could end up being the anti-hype that goes further than expected. Top 10 is very much a possibility but once again, it will have to come down to the right staging to keep their Top 10 chances alive.
