Get to know: Alessandra Watle Mele (born 5 September 2002), is a Norwegian-Italian singer and songwriter, born in Pietra Ligure, Savona, Italy.

Early life and family

Alessandra Mele was born in Pietra Ligure, Savona to an Italian father hailing from Albenga and a Norwegian mother from Stathelle. She spent her formative years growing up in Cisano sul Neva.

At the age of twelve, she achieved victory in the fifth edition of VB Factor, a local talent competition in the Val Bormida region. Following her high school graduation in 2021, she initially resided with her maternal grandparents in Porsgrunn, Norway, before subsequently relocating to Lillehammer to attend the Lillehammer Institute of Music Production and Industries (LIMPI).

Rase to fame – The Voice Norway

In 2022, Alessandra had the opportunity to showcase her talents on a grand stage as a contestant on the seventh season of The Voice – Norges beste stemme, the Norwegian iteration of the globally recognized franchise. Her Blind Audition performance caught the attention of coach Espen Lind, and she was subsequently selected to join his team. Mele’s impressive performances on The Voice – Norges beste stemme led her to the highly coveted live shows stage, unfortunately she was eliminated during the live rounds.

Melodi Grand Prix 2023

On the 4th of January 2023, Alessandra Mele was officially unveiled as one of the twenty-one contestants selected to participate in Melodi Grand Prix 2023, which is the esteemed national competition in Norway for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

During the first semi-final held on the 14th of January 2023, Alessandra captivated the audience with her performance of her original song “Queen of Kings,” and was declared as one of the three acts that would move on to the final round scheduled for the 4th of February 2023.

Subsequently, she emerged victorious as the overall winner of the competition, garnering the highest points from both the public and the international jury. As a result, she has been granted the honor of representing Norway at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2023 set to take place in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

About Alessandra’s song “Queen of Kings”

“Queen of Kings” was co-written by a team of accomplished writers and producers. The songwriting team included Alessandra herself, along with Norwegian composer Henning Olerud, esteemed ghostwriter Linda Dale, and writer-producer Stanley Fernandez, who has previously collaborated with Eurovision 2021 stars TIX and Flo Rida.

According to Alessandra, “Queen of Kings” has a powerful message of self-love that she hopes will inspire listeners of all ages and genders to embrace their inner royalty. Her intention is to encourage everyone to embody their inherent strength and dignity, and to recognize the value of self-acceptance and self-belief.

The song “Queen of Kings”, went viral on TikTok, racking up over 25 million streams and already making Alessandra TikTok star.

Alessandra Mele is slated to perform her entry on the 1st running order position during the first semi-final of the competition on the 9th of May 2023.
