The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and the children’s MGP 2026 will take place at Arena Nord in Frederikshavn in February.
Following the grand finale of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, where Sissal represented Denmark, preparations are already underway for next year’s national selection. DR has now revealed that Frederikshavn will be the host city for both the adult and children’s editions of the Melodi Grand Prix in 2026.
Frederikshavn: Grand Prix City 2026
The northern Danish town of Frederikshavn will transform into a hub of celebration and community for two weeks in February, with Arena Nord as the epicenter of the festivities. Music and unity will be front and center as the city welcomes both national contests.
“A Show That Still Brings Us Together”
Erik Struve Hansen, DR’s project manager for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, expressed his enthusiasm:
“The ambition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is to unite Danes through music, and in its 69th year, it continues to stir emotions and engagement across the country. That makes me happy, because in a time when we often consume entertainment separately, it’s remarkable that this show still holds relevance and brings people together. We’re looking forward to bringing the Grand Prix celebration to Frederikshavn and creating a show that unites the nation in their living rooms.”
First the Adults, Then the Kids
The Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will be held on Saturday, February 14, while the Junior MGP will follow a week later, on Saturday, February 21.
Marlene Boel, Head of DR B&U and responsible for the children’s MGP, said:
“MGP never stands still. It’s a year-round presence in children’s lives, and the songs live on long after the show. We’re excited to once again gather children and families for the biggest kids’ party of the year in February—an event focused on Danish children’s lives and perspectives. We’re deeply committed to traveling across the country so children everywhere can experience MGP live. We’re looking forward to broadcasting the show straight from Frederikshavn.”
More Festivities in the City
Over the two-week Grand Prix period, Frederikshavn will host various events and activities, to be announced later in the year. The city’s mayor, Karsten Thomsen, shared his pride:
“I can hardly contain my excitement. I’m incredibly proud. Hosting this event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our wonderful municipality to the rest of the country. It will no doubt attract many visitors, which means a lot for our hotels, shops, and restaurants. It’s going to be an amazing experience for both children and adults—an event that will unite our community under the spirit of togetherness.”
