Latvian Television (LTV) has announced the 20 participants selected to compete in the semi-finals of the Supernova 2025 song contest.

These talented acts will take the stage on February 1, 2025, for a chance to secure a spot in the finals. The winner, determined by a combination of jury and audience votes during the final on February 8, will represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, this May.

Both rounds will rely on a 50/50 voting system, where the jury and the audience—through calls and SMS votes—will have an equal say in determining the overall winner. This balanced approach ensures that both fan support and professional opinion contribute to the decision.

Adelina with the song “Electric Love”

Versatile Latvian musician who has been developing her talent in London for more than ten years. Her international recognition was boosted by the success of the song “One World”. Grammy award winner RedOne and pop group Now United took part in its production. Adelina calls herself a global citizen and is proud to represent the music production community. Her uncompromising spirit encourages the fight against stereotypes and inspires other women in the music industry to forge their own path.

“Bel Tempo” and Legzdina with the song “The Water”

Legzdina began his creative journey in London, participating in poetry nights at DJ James Massiah and collaborating with Bianca Oblivion and Idris Elba. “Bel Tempo” is an indie and electronic music duo formed by singer Jūlijs Melngailis and producer Andis Ansons. The duo’s mini-album “Pessimismus” was nominated for “Golden Microphone” in 2023 as the best electronic music album and debut album of the year. The musicians have already collaborated before, creating the song “DeepBluSea”, which is included in both the “Bel Tempo” mini-album and the short film with the same name.

Chris Noah with “Romance Isn’t Dead”

(music and words – Krists Indrishonoks and Kristofer Harris)

Latvian musician who combines elements of indie and pop music, gaining wide recognition with his unique voice and melodies. His 2016 single “You” became one of the most played songs in Latvia and won the AKKA/LAA “Copyright Infinity Award” in 2017. In 2018, the mini-album “What About Tomorrow?” was nominated for “Golden Microphone” in the best debut category. In 2020, the musician released the mini-album “Distance”, in 2022 – “Red Light”. Chris Noah also writes songs for other musicians, including Lithuanian Eurovision representative Monika Linkitei, whose song “Stay” won 11th place in the final.

“Citi zēni” with the song “Ramtai”

(Music by Toms Jēkabs Kagainis, Emmy Kristine Guttulsud Kristiansen, Oscar Immanuel Mathisen, Mikus Frišfelds, and Dagnis Roziņš. Lyrics by Jānis Pētersons, Dagnis Roziņš, Toms Jēkabs Kagainis, and Mikus Frišfelds.)

A six-member group that describes their music as “like shaking up a fresh can of tonic and then opening it.” Their explosive performance energy and eccentric style have become their signature. Citi Zēni have released two studio albums: “Suņi iziet ielās” (Dogs Take to the Streets) in 2021 and “Cits līmenis” (A Different Level) in 2024.

The band’s hits have earned widespread acclaim from listeners and critics alike, receiving the Zelta Mikrofons (Golden Microphone) award and winning the Muzikālā Banka (Musical Bank). In 2022, they represented Latvia at Eurovision with the song “Eat Your Salad.”

The group consists of: Jānis Pētersons (vocals), Dagnis Roziņš (vocals & saxophone), Toms Jēkabs Kagainis (drums), Krišjānis Ozols (guitar) and Reinis Višķeris (synthesizer).

Emily with “Heartbeat”

A singer and songwriter, Emilija’s debut single “Sirds pelnos” (Heart in Ashes) became a hit, while her second single, “Noticēt sev” (Believe in Yourself), made it into Latvian radio station charts in the spring of 2024 and was widely streamed across various music platforms. Emilija’s unique vocal timbre and musical style have captured the hearts of many listeners. She continues to create new music.

Grēta Grantiņa with the song “Monster”

A musician who has recently appeared on the scene, Grēta has already signed a contract with Universal Music Group. She released her debut album “Vēl aizvien man sapņos” (Still in My Dreams). Her first single, “Pāries” (It Will Pass), earned her the prestigious Zelta Mikrofons (Golden Microphone) award. Her most popular song, “Pēdējais piliens” (The Last Drop), has surpassed 600,000 streams on digital platforms.

Julianna with “Something In The Water”

Classically trained in music, Julianna also explored gospel music alongside her studies. While studying jazz, she began actively composing original music. In her final year of studies, Julianna delved into music production, collaborating with producers and DJs in Spain.

She fell in love with electronic dance music and started DJing in various European cities. Currently, Julianna is working on two albums. One, produced in collaboration with Arti Boris in Tallinn, will feature R&B and house music. Two songs from this project, “My Name” and “Moon Phases,” are already available on streaming platforms. The second album will focus on acoustic sounds, highlighting the lyrical depth of her work.

Justus with the song “Fit Right”

Justs began his musical journey as a street performer. After a few years, he was invited to join the Latvian hip-hop group Gacho, contributing to concerts and the creation of the album “Smaids līdz ausīm” (Smile to the Ears). In 2016, Justs made his Eurovision debut with the song “Heartbeat”, performing in the Grand Final in Stockholm. Pursuing his solo career, he released several singles and, in 2018, his debut album “Here I Am”. In 2019, Justs began studying music production at BIMM Institute in Bristol. After completing his studies, he returned to Latvia, continuing to perform both as a solo artist and with his band.

Katrīna Gupalo with the song “Scarlett Challenger”

Katrīna Gupalo is a singer, composer, and pianist who has studied music in California, London, and Riga. She has performed internationally and in major concert halls across Latvia. In 2018, she released her debut album “Gentle and Done” and reached the semi-finals of the Supernova competition. In 2020, Katrīna released the album “7 skumjas zvaigznes” (7 Sad Stars), featuring music by Imants Kalniņš. As a passionate advocate for Ukraine, she gathered over 40 musicians to record the support song “Resistance”, which was nominated for the Kilograms kultūras cultural award. Last year, her song “The Cat’s Song” placed 3rd in the Supernova competition.

“KoBra” with the song “Zelts”

(Music and lyrics by Katrīna Kovaļuka and Krišjānis Brasliņš)

Krišjānis Brasliņš and Katrīna Kovaļuka, students at the Latvian Academy of Arts, met in 2023 and formed a duo. Combining Katrīna’s skills in audiovisual communication with Krišjānis’ talent for fashion design, they created their own original music and began performing in the summer of 2024. For their debut single “Aizbiedēt”, the duo both directed and filmed the music video themselves. The “KoBra” musicians are ready to introduce the world to Latvian music.

Luka with the song “Stronger”

(Music and lyrics by Philippus Jacob Kumerling, Kaspars Ansons, and Elizabete Lukaševiča)

Elizabete Lukaševiča studied at the Riga Cathedral Choir School, where she sang in the school’s gospel choir, the ensemble “Momo,” and the studio “Tev un man.” She has participated in and won various young vocalist competitions and has performed in concert programs such as “Mana roka tavējā,” “Ir klusa nakts,” and “Pūt vējiņi.” Lukaševiča has also performed in the 60th anniversary concerts of Jānis Lūsēns. Currently, she is involved in the concert performance “Galms (pa)galmā” directed by Rēzija Kalniņa and is learning pop music vocal techniques with vocal coach Annija Oueijan.

Markus Riva with the song “Bigger Than This”

A versatile artist, singer, songwriter, producer, DJ, actor, and TV host, Markus Riva has released pop and electronic dance music albums and singles in several languages. His hits, such as “Take Me Down” and “Kamēr vien mēs esam,” have gained popularity both in Latvia and internationally. In 2024, in collaboration with Warner Music Poland, Markus Riva released his album “Bigger Than This.” He has participated multiple times in the Supernova song competition, finishing in second place in 2015 and 2019.

Marta with the song “Lovable”

(Music and Lyrics by Marta Grigale, Michaela Stridbeck, Joel Werner, Jānis Jačmenkins, and Reinis Straume)

Marta Grigale is a singer and songwriter. She studied at the London College of Music and has released several albums, conquering both local music charts and the hearts of listeners. Since 2023, Marta has begun taking her first steps in the international music market, writing songs in English and collaborating on international musical projects.

Palú with the song “Delusional”

Singer Palú (Olga Palušina) participated in the Lithuanian show Lietuvos Balsas in January 2023, where she received praise from the jury and joined the team of Eurovision participant Monika Liu. The artist continues to actively develop her music career, creating songs that reflect her personal stories.

Rūta Dūduma with the song “Chemical”

A laureate of several international competitions, Rūta Dūduma is the lead singer of the vocal group Framest and the musical ensemble Vintāža. She actively performs, participates in various theater and musical productions, and teaches vocal lessons. Rūta won the jazz vocalists competition Nomme Jazz in Estonia (2013) and placed 3rd at Riga Jazz Stage (2018). The musician previously participated in the Supernova song contest in 2015 and 2016. This year, she will release her debut solo album Pajums.

“Sinerģija” with the song “Bound By The Light”

The duet of vocalist, cellist, and songwriter Madara Fogelmane and kanklė player Marte Līce has been active for eight years. Madara writes songs that incorporate Marte’s instrumental playing, creating concert meditations. Currently, they are working on their first studio album Būs miers in collaboration with producer Jānis Narbuts. The musicians actively perform and have released two singles – Visas zemes zāle zied and Gaismu tumsā. Madara Fogelmane holds a master’s degree from the conservatories of Amsterdam and Brussels, and in 2018, she participated in the Supernova contest with the song Esamība. Marte Līce is a music therapist who specializes in ethnographic kanklė playing and leads musical meditations. She has studied art therapy at Riga Stradiņš University, where she earned a master’s degree.

“Tautumeitas” with the song “Bur man laimi”

A unique fusion of ethnic and pop music, the group Tautumeitas blends Latvian folk song melodies and lyrics with modern beats, creating a powerful, distinctly Latvian sound. The group expresses itself creatively through its visual image, where their costumes and crowns reflect both traditional and futuristic values. Several members have studied ethnomusicology, which is evident in the group’s music, influenced by folk traditions from various countries. The group’s debut album Tautumeitas won the Zelta mikrofonu award for Best Folk/World Music Album of the Year in 2018, while their album Dziesmas no Aulejas (2020) received the award for Best Folk/World Music Album. The group has performed not only in Latvia but also in China, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, France, and Poland.

“Tepat” with the song “Sadzejot”

A six-member band that performs neosoul music, while also experimenting with other genres. The group was formed in early 2024, and its members include Madara Dzene (vocals), Matīss Barons (keyboards), Eduards Bariss (guitar), Krišjānis Laizāns (bass guitar), Enriko Korvisons (saxophone, vocals), and Andris Žabris (drums). All members have received jazz education and have gained the majority of their musical and stage experience within this genre. Madara, Enriko, Krišjānis, and Matīss have known each other since their studies at the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High School, while they met Eduards and Andris during their time at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The group is constantly exploring new sounds, improvising, and experimenting. In 2024, they released their debut single “Nepietiekami tuvu” and their mini album “Saldāks par vīnu”.

The Ludvig ar dziesmu “Līgo

Jēkabs Ludvigs Kalmanis plašu atpazīstamību ieguva 2017. gadā, kļūstot par jaunāko konkursa “Supernova” dalībnieku un ar dziesmu “I’m in Love with You” ierindojoties otrajā vietā. Viņš ir izdevis vairākas atzinību guvušas dziesmas, sadarbojies ar grupu “Triānas parks”, Raimondu Paulu, Rūtu Dūdumu un citiem māksliniekiem, kā arī aktīvi darbojas kā producents un dīdžejs.

Toms Kalderauskis with the song “Domāju, tu nāc”

A Latvian musical theater actor, singer, and songwriter. He has won awards in various vocal competitions and graduated from the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High School. Toms Kalderauskis made his pop music debut in 2017 with the song “We Won’t Back Down.” To date, he has released seven singles, participated in music competitions and shows, and worked in musical theater. Currently, he is working on his first solo album, with the song “Domāju, tu nāc” being a preview of the album. Toms Kalderauskis is proud to sing in Latvian and believes that the Latvian language should resonate across Europe and the world.

All semi-final songs will be available from December 4th 2024 on the website of the contest and on the “Supernova” “Youtube” account .

The selection of songs and performers for the “Supernova” semi-final was made by a jury chosen by LTV, consisting of representatives from Latvia’s music industry, event management, and television, as well as international professionals. For security reasons, the names of the jury members will be revealed only after the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

The “Supernova” semi-final will take place on February 1 at 21:10 on LTV1 and REplay.lv
