Song: To My Mom
Performer: Andria Putkaradze
At first it seemed a given that Georgia would participate in Junior Eurovision this year as they’ve done every year since their JESC debut in 2007. It also seemed a given that the winner of their young talent show Ranina would be their entry, as has been the case in recent years. However the day after 11 year-old Andria Putkaradze from Batumi won Ranina in late-May, it was revealed winning Ranina is not a guarantee Andria would represent Georgia at Junior Eurovision. In July, it was announced by GPB that Andria will indeed be Georgia’s entry into Junior Eurovision, as it should be. His song is “To My Mom.”
The song “To My Mom” is a ballad completely in Georgian but it’s heard to decide the genre: whether it’s pop, Broadway or opera. This song is not just Andria’s song to his own mother but to all mothers everywhere. It’s about how he feels her warm presence everywhere he goes in the sun and the snow. The song starts off dramatic but quiet, then the intensity of the song grows at the first chorus and continues throughout until it ends in a calm mode. Andria displays a wide range of vocal styles throughout the song and delivers excellently. This is a song I find myself liking every time I hear it again.
JESC Chances:
Georgia is known for delivering a wide variety of styles of acts to Junior Eurovision from outrageous to fringy to acts full of attitude or style to incredibly talented. Even their three winners are completely different in style and song. Now this song has an interesting mix of results. The ‘My Eurovision Scorecard’ app currently has it third-to-last, the poll at Eurovision World has it seventh and the poll at Wiwibloggs has it on top with almost double the votes as its runner-up: Ukraine. The Top 10 potential is there. The big dilemma with ballads at Junior Eurovision I sense is that they have a better chance of winning older viewers than younger viewers. I can’t see too many younger viewers going for a ballad like this. If it gets the right staging, I think it can boost its chances for a higher place.

To My Mom
A street as beautiful as spring
A path as lovely as spring
The sunny love seems never-ending
The sky smiles peacefully at me
My heart races and beats without rhythm
I hurry, I hurry to stretch time
With your smile
It snows beautifully with a smile
In my heart, it snows elegantly
The sun quietly smiles
And gently caresses the snow
Shadows appear on the empty street
The sun plays like a carefree child
Your smile warmed the street
Like a friend, it understands me
Like a friend, it will embrace my heart
It will smile at me and spread its wings
Together we’ll draw the paths
It snows pinkly
In my heart, it snows with love
The sun quietly smiles
And tenderly caresses the snow
For the paths adorned with song
I will sing a ѕong
I will come to you
I will take your hand
Mom
You аre only mine Mom
