When Armenia submits an entry for Junior Eurovision, you always have a feeling it will be a good contender for the Contest. Their two wins and ten Top 3 finishes speak for themselves. This year, AMPTV held their internal selection for choosing their entry and they decided on 12-year old Albert Armenakyan. He’s been performing since he was six and has been in many singing competitions including The Voice Kids France this year. His song is the Armenian-language song “Brave Heart.” The song has been loaded with buzz since it was released and you can hear why. Many songs this year are about dreams and ambitions. This song correlates his dreams to wishing on a falling star and having the brave heart to carry love in a cold world. It will captivate the very moment it starts. Albert’s vocals are delicate during the verses and dramatic during the chorus. The orchestral music fits the song perfectly. I found it mesmerizing from start to finish and I find it having lots of winner potential. It’s already my winner!
JESC Chances:
Armenia may have one of the most stellar Junior Eurovision records but their past success is not a guarantee they will excel. Last year’s entry was released less than a month before the Contest. It sounded catchy at first but the late submission would expose its flaws. The performance appeared under-rehearsed and other nations had better songs and staging. Armenia did a smart thing this year by releasing the song more than a month before the Contest.
On the topic of ballads, one thing we learned from Madrid last year is that with ballads can win the Junior Eurovision crowds and viewers as three finished in the Top 5 and two even finished in the Top 3 of online voting. The things is the ballad has to be very remarkable and really stand out. This song really stands out and there’s no question Albert knows how to sing live. The question is will his vocals be all together in Tbilisi? A bigger question is its staging. Will it try to recreate what was in the animated video? And will it work on stage? Or will the staging be something different? Only time will tell and the song’s chances of finishing in the Top 3 or even winning rest upon it.
