Usually for Junior Eurovision, they have some strict rules for representatives. They either must be a citizen of the nation or have lived there for a number of years. The rules are more relaxed with San Marino. Past entries have been citizens of Italy or other nations who lived in San Marino for a few years, or even a few months. San Marino’s entry for this year is 12-year old singer Martina Cerveillin from Milan, Italy who’s known professionally as Martina CRV. She was a contestant in 2023’s The Voice Kids Italy and her connection to San Marino is competing in their Tour Music Fest in 2024 and winning Best European Junior Singer prize.
Her song is about wanting to feel freedom. The same freedom she feels when she’s on a swing. I think this is the first Junior Eurovision entry to have a country music feel to it. Martina is a talented singer and guitar player. Her vocals are very good in the song and she does a good job in showing her style and attitude in the video. She really shows a lot of promise as a singer and a musician. The song itself has really gotten a lot of positive reviews ever since it’s been released.
JESC Chances:
It’s hard to decide what San Marino’s best Junior Eurovision result is. 2013’s entry finished 10th but he was third-to-last. 2015’s entry was 14th but she was fourth-to-last. Last year’s entry finished last but they were four schoolgirls who simply sang together and were given an underwhelming song. This year’s entry is a lot more promising. Already people are saying good things about the song. It’s possible Martina can achieve San Marino’s best finish ever but it’s up to the judges and the public vote to decide. Additionally, Martina will have to be on with her performing and the staging will need to fit her song without going overboard.
