For Spain’s Junior Eurovision entry for 2025, they decided on 14-year old Gonzalo Pinillos from Madrid. Pinillos has been singing for eight years and has five years of musical theatre experience. One of his hobbies is creative writing. This song, which he co-wrote with four other writers, is about how leaving the computer behind and reading a book can take your imagination away. The song and its vibe almost sounds like something you’d expect to hear in a Disney movie. The song begins with that common vibe but as it progresses, it becomes more upbeat and more dramatic. The vocals of the song does fit Gonzalo’s musical theatre background but I found the song too sweet for my liking.
JESC Chances: Spain has finished in the Top 10 in all but one of the ten previous times they’ve participated. Levi Diaz unfortunately proved in 2021 that a Top 10 finish for Spain is not a guarantee. Also ever since they returned in 2019, the female entries have often fared better than the male entries. Having a song that appears sweet and angelic can be costly at Junior Eurovision. I’ve seen many get low finishes in recent years. On top of it, I feel a song like this does not fit a fourteen-year old singer well. Maybe if he was twelve, I would be fine with it, but not fourteen. Can top notch staging save it? We’ll see on JESC night.
