Norway has selected its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Following an evening of competition at Melodi Grand Prix 2025, Kyle Alessandro was crowned the winner with his song “Lighter”. He will now represent Norway in Basel, Switzerland, performing in the first half of Semi-Final 1 on 13 May.
Melodi Grand Prix 2025: The Selection Process
Norwegian broadcaster NRK once again organised Melodi Grand Prix, the country’s long-running national selection for Eurovision. The final, held at Oslo Spektrum, featured nine competing acts, each hoping to secure Norway’s ticket to Basel.
The winner was determined through a combination of an international jury (40%) and a public vote (60%). In the end, both the jury and Norwegian viewers agreed, awarding Kyle Alessandro and his song “Lighter” the top score.

Who is Kyle Alessandro?
At just 18 years old, Kyle Alessandro is already a familiar name in Norwegian music. Originally from Steinkjer in Trøndelag, he has been involved in the industry since childhood. At the age of 10, he first gained public attention through his appearance on the talent show Norske Talenter.
This is not his first attempt at Melodi Grand Prix. In 2023, he participated as part of the group Umami Tsunami, performing the song Geronimo. However, this year marked his first appearance as a solo artist—and it proved to be a successful one.
Kyle Alessandro’s music is influenced by a diverse range of genres and cultures, drawing inspiration from South America, Japan, and traditional Norwegian folk music. He also incorporates elements from traditional Norwegian instruments, such as the langeleik and fiddle, into his work.

Kyle Alessandro played a significant role in writing and producing “Lighter”, with additional contributions from artist, songwriter, and producer Adam Woods. The song carries a deeply personal message, inspired by his mother’s recent battle with cancer. Now in recovery, her journey served as the foundation for the song’s theme of resilience and hope.
The lyrics, “I’ll be my own lighter,” encapsulate a message of strength in difficult times, encouraging listeners to find their own inner light.

Norway has been a strong contender at Eurovision in recent years, and Kyle Alessandro will aim to continue this trend when he takes the stage in Semi-Final 1 on 13 May.
