Italy has officially chosen its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025: singer-songwriter Lucio Corsi will take the stage in Basel with his song Volevo Essere Un Duro.
Sanremo 2025 and Italy’s Eurovision Selection
Lucio Corsi’s Eurovision journey began at Sanremo 2025, where he finished as the runner-up with Volevo Essere Un Duro. The festival’s winner, Olly, triumphed with Balorda Nostalgia but ultimately declined the opportunity to represent Italy at Eurovision, citing a busy work and tour schedule. Italian broadcaster RAI then extended the offer to Lucio Corsi, who has gladly accepted the honor of flying the Italian flag in May.
Sanremo 2025 was a massive success, drawing in an impressive 13.4 million viewers and capturing a 73.1% TV audience share. After a week of performances featuring 29 competing songs, a final ‘superfinal’ vote determined the festival’s winner. Olly narrowly won by just 0.4%, making it one of the closest Sanremo results in recent history.
Lucio Corsi’s song Volevo Essere Un Duro was written by Corsi himself alongside Tommaso Ottomano. The song’s mix of glam rock influences and poetic storytelling has already captured the attention of Italian music fans, and now it will have the chance to impress a European audience.
Who Is Lucio Corsi?
Lucio Corsi, born on October 15, 1993, is a 31-year-old singer-songwriter from Tuscany. Raised in Val di Campo di Vetulonia, he first made his mark in the Italian music scene by blending surreal lyricism, fairy-tale themes, and a distinct glam rock aesthetic.
After playing in various local bands, he moved to Milan in 2012 to pursue a solo career. He first gained recognition with the release of his debut EPs, Vetulonia Dakar and Altalena Boy, in 2015. These works later formed the foundation of his first album, Bestiario Musicale (2017), a concept record where each song was dedicated to an animal from his homeland, the Maremma region.
Lucio continued to grow as an artist, signing with Sugar Music and releasing two more studio albums:
• Cosa Faremo Da Grandi? (2020) – Co-produced with Francesco Bianconi and Antonio Cupertino, this album showcased a mix of dreamy storytelling and classic rock sounds.
• La Gente Che Sogna (2023) – Marked by its 1970s glam rock influence, this album delved into themes of dreams, night, and imagination, further solidifying Corsi’s artistic identity.
Beyond music, Lucio Corsi has also made waves in the fashion world. In 2018, he was selected to walk for Gucci in their Cruise 2018 campaign, adding another layer to his artistic persona. That same year, he was named Best Emerging Artist at the MEI Special Millennials Event.
In November 2024, Lucio returned to the spotlight with the release of Tu Sei Il Mattino, a song featured in season three of Paramount+’s hit TV series Vita da Carlo.
Lyrics “Volevo essere un duro” by Lucio Corsi
O troppo sole negli occhiali
O troppo sole negli occhiali
Volevo essere un duro
Però non sono nessuno
Cintura bianca di Judo
Invece che una stella uno starnuto
I girasoli con gli occhiali mi hanno detto
“Stai attento alla luce”
E che le lune senza buche
Sono fregature
Perché in fondo è inutile fuggire
Dalle tue paure
Vivere la vita è un gioco da ragazzi
Io
Io volevo essere un duro
Però non sono nessuno
Non sono altro che Lucio
Non ѕono аltro che Lucio
English
I Wanted To Be Tough
I wanted to be tough
One who doesn’t care about the future
A robot
A sumo wrestler
A pusher chased by a guard dog
At Bolo railway station
A hen with golden eggs
But I am nobody
I wasn’t born with a tough face
I’m even scared of the dark
If I get into a fight they beat me up
So that they put black make-up around my eyes
But I never lost time
It is time that left me behind
To go through life
Is child’s play
Mom used to tell me so
And I would fall down from trees
How tough is the world
For those who are normal
Who have little love around them
Or too much sun in their glasses
I wanted to be tough
One who doesn’t care about the future, no
A robot
A gold medal for spitting
The mugger who waits for you in the dark
The king of Porta Portese
The thieving magpie who steals away your faith
To go through life
Is child’s play
Mom used to tell me so
And I would fall down from trees
How tough is the world
For those who are normal
Who have little love around them
Or too much sun in their glasses
I wanted to be tough
But I am nobody
A white belt in judo
Instead of a star, a sneeze
The sunflowers with sunglasses told me
“Be careful with the light”
And that moons without holes
Are a swindle
Because in the end it is useless
To run away from your fears
To go through life is child’ѕ play
I
I wanted to be tough
But I am nobody
I am nothing but Lucio
I аm nothing but Lucio
