Poland’s Road to Eurovision 2025: National Selection and Public Voting Unveiled
In a much-anticipated announcement, Polish Television (TVP) has confirmed its participation in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, following Switzerland’s win by Nemo. For the first time in several years, Poland’s representative will be chosen solely by the public in a live Valentine’s Day pre-selection final on February 14, 2025.
National Selection Process: Key Details and Milestones
TVP’s selection process for Eurovision 2025 begins with an open call for artists starting November 8 and running until December 4. Polish citizens who meet Eurovision’s entry requirements are invited to submit their completed songs. In an update aimed at enhancing transparency and aligning with Eurovision standards in countries like Croatia and Serbia, TVP prohibits public disclosures by artists of their application status until the list of finalists is revealed in January.
Eligible entries will be reviewed by a jury composed of 9 to 15 members from diverse backgrounds, including representatives from TVP, the media, the arts, and the official Polish Eurovision fan club, OGAE Poland. Songs may be submitted in a range of languages, from Polish and English to those of Poland’s national and ethnic minorities, including Ukrainian, Armenian, and Karaim. Sign language may also be incorporated as an artistic element.
The Journey to the Finals
By December 9, the jury will narrow down the entries, rating songs on a points system to select up to 25 top-scoring acts for a live casting round on December 19. From this audition, the experts will finalize a shortlist of 8 to 10 acts for the national final, along with two reserve performers. TVP retains discretion to qualify certain high-profile artists directly to the final, bypassing casting.
In the live final, viewers will determine Poland’s 2025 Eurovision act through SMS voting, allowing up to 20 votes per phone number. In a tie-break or unforeseen disruption, a five-member reserve jury—whose identity will remain undisclosed unless needed—will cast the deciding vote.
