After a two-year absence, TVR confirms participation in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest.
Romania is officially back on the Eurovision stage! Televiziunea Română (TVR) announced on 30 October 2025 that the board of the Romanian public broadcaster has approved Romania’s participation in the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, taking place in Vienna, Austria, in May 2026.
Dan‑Cristian Turturică, President‑Director General of TVR, said:
“We proposed resuming Romania’s participation in Eurovision because, during the two years of absence, we had time to better understand what did not work in the relationship between TVR, the music industry, and creators. We realized what we need to change to have a more competitive selection process and a show that matches the scale of the contest, in order to consistently improve the quality of our presence in the final stage.”
He added:
“Participation in Eurovision is a team effort. We spent a lot of time aligning the expectations and efforts of everyone who must collaborate for Romania to have the best possible representation. Last but not least, we appreciate the understanding shown by the European Broadcasting Union, which adapted its invitation to Romanian Television to return to the contest. This is a sign of genuine interest in Romania’s presence at this global television event.”
TVR’s decision marks the end of a two-year hiatus and demonstrates a renewed commitment to Romanian artists and the music industry. While the broadcaster has not yet announced the selection process for Romania’s Eurovision 2026 entry, fans can expect a competitive and high-quality representation on one of the world’s biggest stages.
