🇦🇱 Albania
Song: “Pakëz diell”
Performer: Kejtlin Gjata
When Albania started in 2012, they finished 12th and last. When they returned in 2015, they’ve been given better results and they’ve been back every year except for 2020. Interesting for selecting Albania’s entry for Junior Eurovision, there’s no Festival I Kenges Junior, but Junior Fest instead. There were eighteen entries competing and the winner was “Pakez Diell” by Kejtlin Gjata.
Interesting to note that Gjata is the co-writer of the song. Listening to the song at first, it’s a nice ballad. She does a very elegant job of singing. She did appear nervous in her performance at Junior Fest, but her nervousness is something she can overcome in time. Right now there’s no list of lyrics for the song so I can’t understand what it’s about. I look forward to learning them.
JESC Chances: It’s been seven years since Albania had their first and only Top 10 finish at Junior Eurovision. Ballads are sink or swim at Junior Eurovision. Five ballads have won the Contest and many continue to get high finishes. Last year, the highest a ballad finished was fifth. However I noticed last year, there were some that didn’t do so well because they came across as too ‘angelic.’ Even though this is the Junior Eurovision, performing an ‘angelic’ song doesn’t do it. Nevertheless, Kejtlin does a great job here. It will be interesting to see how her stageshow develops into the Contest.
