Belgium: First Eurosong 2025 Song Snippets Released & Jury Revealed

Saturday starts the search for a Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in the first preliminary round of ‘Eurosong’ on VRT1. 4 of the 8 candidates introduce themselves and their song. Listen to the first fragments from their songs here, and find out who is in the Eurosong jury together with Gustaph during the grand final.

The road to the Eurovision Song Contest for the Belgian candidate runs through the Eurosong pre-selection. The next 2 Saturdays there will be a preliminary round, in which 4 of the 8 candidates each present themselves and their number. No one drops out in that trajectory. In a live show on February 1, the audience and an international professional jury will decide together which of the 8 artists will go to the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Belgian entry will be a number in French or English. A Dutch-language song is – just like 2 years ago at Eurosong – not in the selection.

These are the 4 numbers from the 1st preliminary round:

‘Pull op’ by Grace is a cheerful and summery up tempo song about coming up for yourself. It is a positive call to her younger self, because Grace said she “often followed the herd” back then. What is special is that Grace has incorporated some sentences in Lingala into the text, as a tribute to her Congolese roots.

‘Air balloon’ is Lenn’s very first single. Unlike his father Günther and grandfather (and two-time Eurovision contest candidate) Louis, he chooses English.

His number is a call to see the positive, even in dark periods. Lenn did not write ‘Air balloon’ specifically with Eurosong in mind. In this sensitive song, he would like to share his story about a mentally difficult period.

‘Fille à papa’ by Le Manou is one of the 2 French-language songs in Eurosong. It’s a cheerful pop song, with influences from the typical 90s house. Le Manou is bilingual and in addition to singer also DJ. The song was created during a writing camp for artists in her own music studio in Durbuy.

The text is a big nod to all nepo babies, who at the same time demand respect for everything they achieve themselves. Nepobabys are children of well-known parents in the entertainment sector, who would mainly owe their career in the spotlight to them.

Finally, LEEZ, sister of singer Metejoor, has made a classic Eurovision pop song with a modern twist with ‘Perfectly imperfect’. She can unpack (and get out) of this with her voice.

Her song is about how couples in a relationship can complement each other perfectly, despite their imperfections. LEEZ already felt very connected to this song during the writing process, because no one is perfect, so she is not, according to the singer.

This is what we already know about the 4 numbers from the 2nd preliminary round:

  • Jelle Van Dael, known from the dance group Lasgo, co-wrote her song ‘Monster’. Her story is partly autobiographical yet universal. The lyrics are about finding your inner strength to fight your demons.
  • Mentissa, like Le Manou, opts for French. ‘Désolée’ is about self-confidence: daring to be yourself and not diminishing yourself for others. With this song, Mentissa takes a new direction in her career, choosing a more pop-oriented sound.
  • Red Sebastian pays tribute to the 90s rave culture in ‘Strobe Lights’. The song is about a night out—you know how it begins but not where it will end. Vocally, he aims to impress, showcasing both the lower and higher ranges.
  • Stefanie Callebaut, former frontwoman of SX, presents ‘Gloria’, an adventurous celebration of light and love. It’s definitely not a straightforward pop song but a unique piece that could stand out at Eurovision.
