Well, it looks like we’re getting to that time. That time to have the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. As you know, France won last year. To the surprise of some, France will not be hosting. The biggest reason why is because the French networks had the big duty of handling the Summer Olympics. Spain, who finished second last year, agreed to step up to the plate and host. Madrid is the host city and the Caja Magica, which is the host venue for tennis’ Madrid Open, is the host venue. Seventeen nations will compete with Cyprus and San Marino returning to the competition.

One of the biggest topics of conversation for this year’s Junior Eurovision is how many solo boys will be performing. This is the most in a long time. Even Germany and Poland have a solo boy entry for the first time. And a big one. Eleven year-old Bjarne has captured Germany’s attention when he won The Voice Kids. He also won the national final back in July 1st. Hard to believe they decided a Junior Eurovision song that early!
This year’s entry is a ballad about environmentalism. There are a lot of ballads this year but not as many songs about environmentalism this year. The song starts as a soft ballad but grows in its energy over time and ends with the same innocent energy it started with. The whole time, Bjarne delivers his singing with a mix of powerful vocals and innocence. The chorus itself is strong with the choral singing added.
JESC Chances:
Germany is a nation still trying to establish itself at Junior Eurovision. Last year, Fia achieved their best-ever finish with ninth. As for this year’s entry, some are saying this song could rank quite high because of Bjarne’s popularity in Germany. Others feel it won’t fare so well because it could be seen as to soft or sappy. Also I’ve learned over recent years that if you try to play too angelic at Junior Eurovision, it can work against you. It’s possible the right staging at JESC could add to the song. We’ll have to see how it goes.
