IRELAND

Song: “Aisling”

Performer:  Jessica McKean

Ireland is back with their eighth Junior Eurovision entry. Jessica McKean won the right to represent Ireland by winning the Eire Contest. She represents with the song “Aisling.” Like last year’s entry, it’s another song with a  mystic Celtic feel to it. As a bonus,  last year’s representative Sophie Lennon is one of the writers of the lyrics! The song is a beautiful salute to Ireland and her dream where they all are one under a single castle. It’s a very graceful, very mystical song. I’ve often felt Ireland’s best entries whether at the main Eurovision or Junior Eurovision are the ones with the Celtic feel to it.

JESC Chances:

For so long Ireland has been getting low finishes at the Contest. A 10th in 2016 and it seemed that was it. Last year, Sophie Lennon changed that with a fourth-place finish. Finally Ireland got some JESC love! With Ireland returning with another song with a similar mystic feel and a Celtic feel, I’m anticipating this to finish well. Quite possibly another Top 10 finish. However I can also see this getting a low finish too. Some Junior Eurovision songs have finished lower than anticipated because the song was dismissed by viewers and /or jurors as too ‘sweet’ or too ‘angelic.’ This is one of those songs that could be dismissed as such. With good staging, the song can finish high.

And there you go! That’s the last of my song reviews for Junior Eurovision 2023!

Lyrics “Aisling” Jessica McKean

Gaeilge

Verse 1
Chuala mé
Guthanna sa ghaoth
Treoraithe ag na réalta
Faoi scáth na hoíche

Sheol mé
Trasna na mara
Bhí sé cosúil, le’Aisling
Do mo thabhairt go tír
Smaragaid

Bridge
Chonaic mé teach solais
Do mo threorú isteach
Do m’fháiltiú ar ais

Chorus
An aisling, i mo thír lán
S’é an caisleán óir
Le seomra ann do gach duine

Verse II
An bhanríon
Gléasta i mbán
Thóg sí mo lámh
‘Is chan sí amhrán dom
Chan sí amhrán
In san seomra óir
In ndiaidh na cath
Tagann síochán

Chorus
An aisling, i mo thír lán
S’é an chaisleán óir
Le seomra ann do gach duine
Faoin ngrian ‘faoin ghealach
Agus scáthanna na sléibhte
S’é mo aisling, s’é mo aisling

Break
Ag fanacht leis an rí
Shíl mé go bfhaca mé an banshee
(Ná bí scantraithe)

Is mise an solas
Do do threorú isteach
Do d’fháiltiú ar ais

Chorus
An aisling, i mo thír lán
S’é an chaisleán óir
Le seomra ann do gach duine
Faoin ngrian ‘faoin ghealach
Agus scáthanna na sléibhte
Sé mo aisling, s’é mo aisling

English

Verse 1
I heard
Voices in the wind
Lead by the stars
Under the shadow of the night
Guide me
Over the sea
It was like a dream
Taking me to the emerald land

Bridge
I saw a lighthouse
Leading me in
Welcoming me back

Chorus
The dream in my plentiful land
It’s the golden castle
With a room for everyone

Verse II
The queen
Wearing white
She took my hand
And she sang a song
She sang a song for me
In the golden room
After every battle
Peace comes

Chorus
The dream in my plentiful land
It’s the golden castle
With a room for everyone
Under the sun and the moon
And the shadows of the mountains
It’s my vision it’s my dream

Break
Waiting for the king
I thought I saw the banshee
Don’t be scared
I am the light
Guiding you in
Welcoming you back

Chorus
The dream in my plentiful land
It’s the golden castle
With a room for everyone
Under the sun and the moon
And the shadows of the mountains
It’s my vision it’s my dream
