The registration for MGP 2024 is now open! Who will have the honourable task of representing Norway in the world’s biggest music show Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

All songs released after September 1, 2023 can now be selected to participate in MGP the following year. The purpose is to create a larger opportunity window for more great songs and artists to participate in MGP. It has the potential to generate increased engagement for new Norwegian music and for MGP before the season kicks off.

The rule change allows for dialogue between the MGP editorial team and potential participants regarding material that has already been released to the public. As early as September, the audience and media can start speculating on whether any songs from the autumn releases will be seen and heard in MGP.

This will also give fans the opportunity to put pressure on artists and the MGP editorial team to include specific songs and artists. MGP is one of Norway’s most engaging events, and this is a new way to generate even more excitement around MGP and new Norwegian music.

However, the artists and songs participating in MGP will not be announced until January. The rule changes are in line with the EBU’s own regulations, where all songs released after September 1 can participate in Eurovision the following year.

RULES FOR MELODI GRAND PRIX 2024

The submission deadline is August 31, 2023.

Melodi Grand Prix (MGP) 2023 is an open song competition where anyone who writes songs can submit entries.

The entry must be unpublished and not have been publicly performed before.

The song competition is open to songwriters from all nations, but it is encouraged that submitted entries have at least one Norwegian songwriter, as MGP aims to prioritize and promote the Norwegian music scene.

Each composer, producer, or artist can submit a maximum of three songs.

NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) reserves the right to choose the artists who will perform the songs, but this is done in dialogue and with the consent of the songwriters.

In addition to selecting songs from the submitted entries, NRK will also directly invite composers and artists to participate in the competition. It will be possible to release the song starting from September 1, but the announcement of participation in MGP will not happen until 2024, on a date to be determined in agreement with the MGP editorial team.

All artists participating in Melodi Grand Prix must be at least 16 years old by the potential participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in April/May 2024.

There is no time limit on the submitted songs, but if your song is selected, it must be able to be shortened to a maximum of 3 minutes.

The entry must consist of 100% original material, and you must be the rightful copyright owner of the submitted song. There must be no formal obligations that prevent the song from being submitted for jury evaluation. Our jury will make their selection during November 2023, and everyone who has submitted an entry will be notified when the decision is made. The submission deadline is August 31, 2023.

If the entry is selected to participate in the competition, finished audio files must be delivered according to the agreed upon deadline. No financial contribution will be provided for recording. NRK does not acquire any rights to the individual master recordings.
