The war in Ukraine has continued for the past year and a half, but that won’t stop Ukraine from being part of Junior Eurovision. This year, Anastasia Dymyd represents with the song “Kvitka” which means flower. These past two years, Ukraine’s entries have either been about the war or are metaphoric of the war. The war is also the subject of this song, but this is a song that gives a feeling of hope. The danceable beats and the cheerful singing give that feel. Even the line “stop this tragedy’ doesn’t damper the feeling of hope in the song.

JESC Chances: This is the second year in a row Ukraine is sending a song to Junior Eurovison with war as the theme. Last year’s entry from Zlata Dziunka was a song about hope, but it also focused on the heartbreak. This year’s song is a song with a more hopeful message and the feeling of hope. I can see it doing well in the Contest, but I can see some people dismissing it as too cutesy. Doing a song too cute is a gamble at Junior Eurovision. It can be welcomed if done right or disliked if it’s too over the top. The staging and final performance should decide.
