Italy competed in their first Junior Eurovision in 2014 and they won! Since then, they’ve fallen in love with Junior Eurovision sending an entry every year, except for the pandemic-ridden 2020 Contest. For the Junior contest, it’s not the San Remo Junior contest that selects Italy’s entry. Instead it’s the television network RAI that selects internally. This year they chose 13 year-old singer Chanel Dilecta to represent with the song “Bla Bla Bla.”
Italy has never sent anything to Eurovision that can be described as a disappointment. They’ve never sent a disappointment to Junior Eurovision either. And this song is far from a disappointment. This song has a nice dance beat to it. It will make you want to dance to. If you look at the English translation of the lyrics, you’ll see the song has a good message. Most Junior Eurovision songs come with a positive message and a message of empowerment. This song is also one that makes the statement the words can be nonsense, ort words can also be powerful in shaping a better future. In addition, Chanel saves her best vocal tricks for the very end, showing she’s a great talent too.
JESC Chances: This is very tricky to say how this will go. I’ve heard some Italian entries at Junior Eurovision I thought wouldn’t do so well, but they finished higher than expected. This is a very good song with its own style. The way I see things right now, there are other songs that stand out in a bigger way, but you never know. Italy has surprised in past JESCs. If they have the right stage show that captures the spirit of the song, it can go further than expected.
